This fall Michael and Dianne Morey of Michigan decided to make a gift to their alma mater. They have donated 35 rare retro cars to Northwood University.

The total value of all cars is about $2 million. In such a way Morey wants to thank the university, because the knowledge he received there helped him to set up the wood chipper business in 1987 and later become a millionaire.

The collection includes mostly American cars. Most of them are powerful Chevrolets of the 50s and 60s: Corvette, Impala, Bel Air and Camaro of different years of production.

The most expensive car is a 1970 Plymouth Cuda with a 425-hp V8 Hemi that costs at least $500,000. Other valuable cars are Dodge Challenger with the same Hemi engine and Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. In addition, there are vintage Ford V8 '30s hot rods, Pontiac GTO and Firebird, Plymouth GTX Hemi in the collection.

Northwood University is going to put almost all of the cars up for Mecum’s Kissimmee Auction on January 6th, and the proceeds will cover the costs of campus renovations. Only the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette will remain at the campus.
