"You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed," this is a famous quote from one of the kindest books, The Little Prince, the 1943 French novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

However, sometimes owners don't fully realize how much their pets' lives depend on them.

When volunteers discovered Heidi, the little pony was just lying in the backyard and wouldn't even move.

First, they couldn't even tell if the animal was alive, but then they noticed faint breathing. Heidi was taken to the vets, who weren't sure if she would make it. Nevertheless, the volunteers made the decision to at least try to save the pony.

When Heidi was sheared, it became apparent how emaciated and dehydrated she was. There were numerous sores on the pony's skin, and she must not have been washed or groomed for years. Fortunately, no other serious illnesses were found, but even so, getting her out was not easy.
