Marina Melis and her animal-loving team have been rescuing donkeys on Bonaire Island in the Caribbean for 23 years. When they heard about the suddenly orphaned foal, they immediately sheltered it at Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire. They named the baby Perry. "He drinks from a bottle and is so cute and brave. Perry lives with other orphaned foals in the stable, so he doesn't feel lonely here," sanctuary officials wrote on social media.

Unfortunately, Perry is not the only animal who lost his mom. And the rescuers from the sanctuary, who have already helped hundreds of donkeys, know this very well.

Donkeys were originally brought by Spanish colonists in the 17th century to do hard work. Today, the poor animals have to fend for themselves on a barren island, where they are often hit by cars. The sanctuary has become a real rescue for donkeys who have no one else to help them.
