Rob Morgan, 46, a fifth-generation-farmer lives in the British town of Swansea. Thirteen years ago, the single father-of-one and reindeer lover started his first herd on the farm, after which he was nicknamed ‘Mr. Christmas.’ One day, during a crisis, the man was forced to sell all his cattle in order to plant Christmas trees for sale.
“I planted a few Christmas trees one year and they were doing well so I ended up planting so many that I decided to sell my sheep and other animals to make room for the trees,” Rob shares.
When his business was looking up, Rob began to really miss reindeer, so he got one. After that he couldn't stop: “The farm felt empty because there were no animals and I love animals so I bought a reindeer and that was it. I've now got one of the biggest reindeer herds in the UK,” the man says.
The man lives and looks after reindeer on the farm with his 10-year-old son Lloyd, who also adores these beautiful animals. They take care of the reindeer together, and even order them moss from Scandinavia for a proper diet.
The farmer is so anxious about his reindeer that he even sleeps with them during birthing season: " In May when the reindeer give birth, I sleep with the reindeer to make sure they give birth correctly. It's a tense time because reindeer are very very maternal. Because of that, I want each and every one of them to have a baby reindeer," Rob continues.
The man has gone further in his love of reindeer. He now campaigns for reindeer welfare and gives talks at schools about the dwindling numbers of these animals.
Rob has also built a Santa's grotto and winter wonderland at his farm, where he conducts tours. Children can interact with reindeer and learn a lot.
