Kim, 34, moved into a new house about a year ago. The house was indeed very old with creaky wooden floors and doors painted dull brown, beige walls, and grayish "marble" tiles in the kitchen. In the 80s or 90s this interior must have looked noble and expensive, but it no longer looked modern.
However, the woman managed to see the potential of the house beyond its unassuming exterior. Having bought the house, Kim got down to work. She didn't plan to rebuild it completely, as she was a busy mum. Having enough money and energy only for small changes, Kim was able to completely transform her new home.
"This transformation was therapeutic for me."
Kim says she loves the dramatic effect of mixing different colors and textures. This is exactly what makes the house so extraordinary. The smooth sheen of the wood flooring and the black and white of the zebra rug, the glow of the neon and the green of the plants, the polished sheen of the metal and the softness of the fur and feathers. The outcome is the interior that might match a posh lady of the Jazz Age. It might seem a little gaudy, but it perfectly conveys the 20s aesthetics.
The wonderful thing about this interior is that despite looking gorgeous, it cost Kim very little money. Several cans of paint, new wallpaper, and lots of items Kim got from local flea markets, auctions, and thrift stores. For an entire year, Kim visited these shops every weekend to get incredible treasures in the pile of junk. Furthermore, spray paint can do wonders! Put a bit of attention and love, and you'll get a stunning piece of decor.
Kim's kitchen now shines with all the colors of the rainbow: red, green, pink, and purple. Kim has created a fashionable bedroom by restoring and gilding the bed. She bought the metal rim of the chandelier at a thrift store. She glued ostrich feathers on it, and now this is not an ordinary bedroom of a woman in her 30s, but a princess' boudoir!
It is incredible that Kim has made such a magical transformation on her own!
