A pittie named Lucy did everything she could to save her family. Had it not been for the courageous pet, a man with a knife could have killed her entire family. Unfortunately, it cost the brave pit bull her life. "She saved all our lives. She really did," says Florida resident Lisa Potts.

One weekday, Potts came home and found her ex, Walter Williams, inside. They had a quarrel and Williams grabbed a knife. That's when Lucy the dog came to the rescue.

"Lucy lunged at him and he caught her right in the neck. She still was fighting him, and that's when all three of my sons jumped on Walter and held him down to the ground," Potts recalls. One of the boys was injured, but Lucy suffered much more serious injuries (three stab wounds).

"Once I got her downstairs I just asked someone for a towel and applied [as] much pressure as I could to it to try to save her life," Potts says with tears in her eyes. "I kept just trying to be happy and calling her name and 'come on, Lucy, come on.'"

However, despite Potts' efforts, Lucy's heart stopped the next day and she passed away. "She was a fighter, and she did good, she really did good. If it wasn't for her, you know, he could've probably stabbed all of us," Potts said.

Williams has been charged with battery and is in jail now.
