A cat named Katy was found in an empty apartment along with her newborn kittens. Unfortunately, the kittens didn't make it. The cat was taken in by Isel Marallich, head of the Langebaan Animal Care shelter.

"She was extremely affectionate, not afraid of anyone, but she really wanted attention and love. She needed someone to take care of," Marallich recalls.

Everything changed when Marallich took in newborn puppies. "Katy immediately decided to be a mom to them. She would calm the babies down, groom and feed them, cuddle with them, that is acted like a real mother. The puppies helped her to get over her grief," Isel shared.

Several months later, the puppies found a forever home. But Katy continues to take care of new babies. When Isel brings new puppies or kittens, she looks after them as if they were her own babies.
