"He now feeds 16 colonies of stray and feral cats, a total of 68 animals, every night, 365 days a year, and has never missed a night in all 22 years," a local resident says. "He just gives them the bare minimum to support them."

Ortiz, born in Puerto Rico, started feeding cats back in 1995 after seeing a hungry kitten begging for food. "People were heartlessly pushing it away, and I saw it needed help," Willie Ortiz recalls.

At that moment the man realized that caring for cats was his purpose and mission in life.

Still, not everyone understands his obsession with cats. "People ask me why I feed them daily, or they tell me I feed them too much," Ortiz says. "You eat every day, don't you? You eat three meals a day; they eat one meal a day."

Willie Ortiz says he will continue to feed cats as long as he has the energy to do it.
