William, a 2-year-old bulldog, arrived at a dog shelter in a terrible condition. The vets couldn't hold back tears when they saw him – the pooch was severely emaciated; he lost all his fur and his ingrown claws were hurting his paws. The doggie had been the victim of mistreatment and negligence of his owner. Fortunately, William is now on the mend.

"It will take a long time to recover, but William is safe now," said Linda Whittaker, founder of Linbee Dog Rehoming in Wakefield, UK. "We have to get on top of his skin first as he has demodectic mange. Then we need to treat his cherry eye and he's going to need to be neutered. He might need entropion surgery," the woman explained.

Entropion is a condition in which the edge of the eyelid and the eyelashes are turned toward the eyeball. This leads to constant irritation of the eye, corneal erosion and ulceration. The bulldog is currently being treated with antibiotics as well as anti-inflammatory drugs. He takes therapeutic baths twice a week.

"I'm shocked by his temperament because despite everything he has been through he shows no malice," Whittaker admitted
