Sometimes animals realize that they cannot cope on their own with their babies. In such cases they might choose to call for human help, and they make their choice perfectly.

Last August, veteran Jerry Smith was working in the garden when he heard a strange rustling in the bushes. A kitty came up to him, looked pitifully into his eyes, as if asking him to follow her. Jerry realized the cat was calling him to go somewhere, so he headed into the bushes. There he found a litter of kittens.

Although Jerry is paralyzed on his right side due to a stroke he suffered when he was in the Army, he had never asked anyone for help. But this time he called his wife to get the kittens out of the bushes.

At first, his wife Patty Smith was hesitant because they already had two cats living in the house. How could they possibly take in several more cats? Patty put the babies in a box which she placed in the bathroom so the kittens wouldn't get hurt by the adult pets that already lived in the house.

All the while, the mother cat watched the veteran and his wife take the kittens out of the bushes, and only after making sure they were okay did she walk away. The couple waited for her to return, but she never did. Apparently, she thought that the kittens were in good hands.

The Smith family nursed the dehydrated kittens back to health and two months later they were old enough to look for new owners, but everyone in the family including the adult cats, got attached to the fluffy little ones.

Jerry didn't want to give the kittens away because "what if they end up with a family who doesn't love them?"

The kittens got along with the adult cats, played and had fun together. And how could such a miracle be given away?
