The owner of a 20-year-old Labrador named Sam passed away after a long illness. Arthur had a heart condition. Although doctors advised the man to stay in hospital, he wanted to spend his last hours in his own home with his pet. Arthur thought he would outlive Sam.
The dog had stayed by the owner's body all day until Arthur’s buddy Philip Gordon stopped by the sick man’s place to check on him.
Philip called the police, but they could not get the dog away from its owner. Sam didn't want to leave her beloved owner even after he died! They had to call Meghan Olsen, who is the director of One Day Ranch Animal Rehabilitation Center. Meghan tried to win Sam’s trust by talking to the dog and giving her treats.
Eventually, Sam was led out of the house and taken to the animal rehabilitation center. All the way there, she was whimpering as if she was grieving for her owner.
Meghan Olsen brought Sam to Arthur's funeral so the dog could say goodbye to her owner.
Sam now lives at the center. Olsen and other staff members are doing everything they can to make the elderly and devoted dog comfortable. They’ve even started looking for a new home for Sam, but everyone understands that most likely the dog will stay at the animal center for the rest of her days. But even here she is already loved! And how is it possible not to admire such devotion until death?
