The cargo ship Cheikh El Mokrani was near the Tunisian coast when the sailor noticed a whale entangled in a net. He jumped from the 39-feet deck to rescue the "sea prisoner”.
In this footage, the sailor can be seen swimming up to the whale's tail and trying to free it.
The man had to do it with enormous effort, but all his attempts were in vain. After a while his colleague came to him in a rescue boat. Together they managed to free the huge mammal.
As a result of the jump from the 39-feet deck the man was not hurt, and the mammal calmly swam away into the open sea.
