Older dogs are not popular with people looking for a pet. Everyone wants a puppy or a young dog, that is an active, beautiful pet in the prime of life! So when an elderly dog ends up in a shelter, the staff and volunteers realize that the pet will most likely live out its days without an owner and cozy home.

This was the case with Ash, a good-natured grandpa who was taken to the shelter from the streets. Big, calm, with wise eyes, he has seen a lot in his life.

Ash was happy when somebody took him out for a walk, always kindly welcomed strangers, and curiously sniffed each guest. His age gave him advantages such as calmness and good attitude to other animals, peaceful and obedient walks, absence of interest in all kinds of pranks.

But the years passed, and Ash was still in the shelter. His only joy was the not-so-frequent human attention and walks, where he could enjoy his freedom.

For more than four years Ash lived in the shelter and watched dogs be taken away from the neighboring cages, but he still remained undeservedly unnoticed. Fortunately, miracles happen, and good luck smiled on the old boy. He was adopted!

"From the first days he learned the rules of life in the apartment. He loves long walks," Ash's owner says. "He's discovered a new world entirely different from the shelter, with lots of smells and sounds."

"Ash explores the world with great pleasure and curiosity during every walk. He used to walk obediently behind me, but now he walks more confidently."
