The 80th Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles. Film director Steven Spielberg, actress Cate Blanchett and actor Austin Butler were the main winners.

Spielberg won Best Director for The Fabelmans, an autobiographical film in which the famous Hollywood director described his own youth and adolescence. The movie has also won Best Motion Picture.

Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her role in Tar, where she played the conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The actress was not present at the ceremony as she is currently in the UK.

Austin Butler won Best Actor for Elvis, the biopic about the famous singer Elvis Presley, directed by Baz Luhrmann.

The Best Actor Award in the Comedy/Musical category went to Irish actor Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin, a tragicomedy set on a remote Irish island. This movie also won Best Motion Picture in Musical or Comedy category.

Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical for Everything Everywhere All At Once, a sci-fi comedy about life in parallel universes.

Pinocchio by Mexican director Guillermo del Toro was recognized as the best animated film.

This year the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award for Excellence in Cinematography went to comic actor Eddie Murphy.

House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, won Best Television Series.

This year's ceremony was the first since the lifting of quarantine restrictions imposed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony was attended by numerous celebrities including singer Rihanna and such actors as Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.
